Hi Amanda,

I know that your website is targeted towards coaching mums, but I am a happily married young man -with no kids (yet)- and I find all your advice incredibly useful!

Keep up the fantastic work and all the best,

Work is less stressful than 15 years ago" REALLY?!

Thursday, September 16, 2010

This was a headline in last Wednesday’s Daily Telegraph.  Apparently, in 1990, British workers spent 37% of their day working "intensively", then peaked at 49% in 1995 but this fell to 40% in the latest update covering 2005.   Read More

Life Work Balance Tip:How to Reduce Work Related Stress as a Working Mum

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Share |

Working mothers recognise the value in maintaining a career outside of the home.  Aside from the financial benefits of a regular pay cheque, work provides women with a sense of identity, purpose, and passion apart from our maternal and domestic roles.  Yet, as working mothers, we also face the dual burden of “second-shift” work, meaning we often suffer from burnout and the tendency to overextend ourselves.  While a certain amount of stress can be a positive motivator, overexertion is dangerous and leaves women feeling overwhelmed and at the brink of insanity.  How can working mums reduce their stress levels and avoid burnout? Understanding the importance and learning about work life balance will help you ditch the guilt and stop the burnout.  But in the meantime, to take control of all that life throws your way, try the following work life balance tips to help release tension and improve your mood.  Read More

Work Life Balance Tips: Seven Principles of Balance, Part 2

Monday, August 09, 2010

Share |

Several weeks ago I wrote part one of a blog post entitled “Suffragettes, Sinatra and Pants: Your First Three Principles of Work Life Balance” with the intention to send you part two in the following issue. Then something inspired me and I wrote about that for the next issue. Having already written part two, I completely forgot to post it. It wasn’t until my sister in-law, Denise mentioned it to me last week, telling me how much it had helped her friend to breathe a relieved sigh of, “Oh, I’m doing ok and I’m not the only one”, Denise also told me that she seemed to have missed part two, and it was then that the penny dropped! I hadn’t posted part two!! Finally part two of my work life balance tips.  Read More

Hi Amanda

I enjoyed this post. We are not Islands although sometimes we might like to be - just for the peace and calm - but it is always nice when the ferry comes back in and people come back.
The point you made about the Ferrari is excellent. I am off to practice my self care. Thank you for the reminder

Another great post, thanks Amanda.

I try to plan/cope using Stephen Covey's 7 habits approach, which is to try to balance your "roles", so mummy, wife, work etc. But I think the main thing, as you are pointing out is that you can only do so much.

I like the 10 project limit, I must just count all mine up, there are more than 10, but something to aspire to!

Enjoy the sunshine.

Perfect timing for this post Amanda! I've always been great at multi-tasking but I think I finally bit off more than I can chew! Your blog post pretty much describes where I'm at right now - overwhelm. The problem is, it can be so hard to get out of it! I'm currently entering a very busy period for one of my businesses, developing a product for another business, buying a house, moving area, selling two other houses, trying to get my son into a new school and planning a wedding which is going to take place on the other side of the world! Oh yes - and I'm a single mum!! I like being busy, but I think I just entered the realms of 'ridiculous'.... will take 30 minutes 'time out' today like you suggest...

Do you spend 49 minutes per day with your kids?

Friday, June 11, 2010

BBC online published a story last week following the findings of a study which was conducted ahead of the UK's National Family Week which takes place next week. And it's really got my goat!

According to the study quoted by the BBC, parents spend on average 49 minutes per day with their children.

The survey says that of 3,000 parents surveyed, 68% cite money as a barrier to spending more time with their family.   Read More
